Tooth extractions are performed in-office when a tooth is severely decayed, loose, or poses a problem to your overall oral health. Extractions are simple surgeries performed by our Cypress dentist and require a minimal amount of anesthesia and aftercare.
Reasons for Tooth Extraction
To determine if you need to have a tooth extracted, it is essential to come into the office for an examination and a series of X-rays. This not only helps to determine if a tooth needs to come out, but it also helps to assess the bone condition and nerve positioning that we wouldn’t be able to see with a typical exam.
Some reasons why Dr. Logan would recommend tooth extraction include:
- Severe tooth decay has made the tooth irreparable
- Advanced gum disease or bone loss has loosened a tooth
- A tooth poses a problem to your future oral health (wisdom teeth)
- In preparation for an implant or full denture placement

Tooth Extraction and Aftercare
First, we will administer an anesthetic to ensure that you don’t experience any pain during the procedure. Dr. Logan will then carefully remove the tooth using her skill and expertise and a variety of extraction tools. In some cases, you may receive sutures depending on the area where the tooth was extracted.
You will go home with aftercare instructions that must be followed precisely to ensure proper healing. We are here to help if you have questions before or after the procedure. Extractions are done at your own convenience and in a manner that is comfortable and relaxing.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions
At some point in our late teens and twenties, many of us develop third molars, commonly known as wisdom teeth. Because of their positioning far back in the mouth behind all your other teeth, wisdom teeth are often problematic. They may not have enough room to emerge in proper alignment, which can cause crowding and pain.
Since they are also hard to reach with a brush and floss, wisdom teeth make it difficult to clean your teeth adequately, which can lead to cavities and gum disease. In some cases, wisdom teeth don’t emerge at all and get impacted or stuck in the gums.
If you are experiencing any of these issues, Dr. Logan would typically recommend the extraction of your wisdom teeth. We don’t really need wisdom teeth anymore because we consume a diet that consists largely of processed foods that don’t require a lot of chewing power. Removing a wisdom tooth is often the safest and healthiest approach.
